To begin this assignment I had to think of something that would look awesome done in Vinyl. Something I'd be happy to put up and display somewhere in or around my house. So since my basement is fully of hockey things, I went on to do the logo of my favorite hockey team. So I found a large clear image of their logo, and place it in my art board in illustrator.

The next step was simply separating the few color layers, and putting each color into a different document and saving them serially onto my flash drive, with each one just named the color I needed it to be.
Once I had them all saved, I took my flash drive down, plugged it into the computer in the lab thats connected to the vinyl cutter, and loads all of my pieces. I also gathered all of the colors I would need, and turned on the vinyl cutter. |
Once I had it all set up, I had the machine cut out my Vinyl for me, one color at a time. Once it was all done with each color, I took my flash drive out and put all my stuff away and then I took all of the extra pieces other than the needed parts from the vinyl, to apply it later.
Through this project The main thing I learned was how truly easy it is to make these Vinyl things, and how amazing they will turn out. Basically all I had to do was find an image, separate it, and cut it out. i also learned how to easily separate an image by color with just a few simple clicks in illustrator. I also learned how powerful illustrator really is, and how powerful the vinyl cutters are. I learned how to make make my own vinyl decal from a picture on the enternet, and thats pretty cool.
